About EU compliance fines
How are GPSR fines calculated?+
GPSR fines are set by each EU member state within their national transposition laws. The EU regulation requires fines to be "effective, proportionate and dissuasive" but leaves the specific amounts to each country. Germany, the Netherlands, and Sweden have the highest ceilings — up to €100k–€870k per violation.
Can I face fines in multiple EU countries at the same time?+
Yes. If you sell to customers across multiple EU countries, each national authority can independently investigate and fine you. A non-compliant store selling EU-wide could theoretically face concurrent enforcement actions.
Are EAA fines different from GPSR fines?+
Yes. EAA (European Accessibility Act) fines are governed by separate national laws. Some countries, like Spain, have particularly high EAA fines (up to €1M for large companies). EAA enforcement began in June 2025.
Do fines apply to micro-enterprises and SMEs?+
Both GPSR and EAA apply to all businesses selling to EU consumers, regardless of size. However, some countries (Spain, Italy, Portugal) apply lower fine ceilings for micro-enterprises and SMEs when transposing the EAA.
