Is Article 50 the only rule that applies to you?
If your assistant also screens candidates, scores credit or triages patients, it moves into the high-risk regime. Classify your system in 3 minutes and see which documents you need. The €49 Compliance Pack drafts them for you.
What the law asks for
Article 50 in plain terms
If your product is designed to interact directly with people, Article 50(1) of the EU AI Act says those people must be told they are dealing with an AI system, unless that is obvious from the context. If it generates synthetic audio, image, video or text, Article 50(2) asks the provider to mark the output in a machine-readable way, and Article 50(4) makes deployers disclose deepfakes and AI-written text on matters of public interest.
A good notice is visible without scrolling or hovering, says “AI” or “automated” explicitly, appears in every language you serve, works with screen readers, and is repeated after a human hand-off. A persona name and a friendly avatar are not a disclosure.
Read the full rules in the chatbot guide, the generative content guide, or in Spanish: chatbots de atención al cliente.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
When does the AI disclosure notice become mandatory?
The transparency obligations of Article 50 of the EU AI Act have applied since 2 August 2026. Providers must design systems that interact with people so those people know they are dealing with AI, and deployers must disclose deepfakes and certain AI-generated text.
Where exactly must the notice appear?
At the point of interaction, at the latest at the first interaction: a visible label in the chat window, a first message that says it is an AI assistant, and a spoken sentence at the start of a call. Burying it in the Terms of Service or Privacy Policy is not enough.
Do I need the notice if it is obvious that it is a bot?
Article 50(1) exempts systems where it is obvious to a reasonably well-informed person from the circumstances and context. A named persona with a human-style avatar is the opposite of obvious, so add the notice.
Do I need one notice per language?
Yes. The information has to be understandable to the people you serve, so it should appear in every language your assistant speaks. That is why this tool generates all eight in one go.
Is this legal advice?
No. It gives you well-formed wording that follows the requirement. Have it reviewed by a qualified professional if your case is complex, for example when the assistant also makes decisions about people.
